Exciting Broadband Trial Expands Across Surrey

Wonderful news for residents in Surrey! A week after initial invites were sent out, EE has officially confirmed the specific areas selected for their groundbreaking broadband trial. This exciting initiative showcases Openreach's new XGS-PON powered Full Fibre technology, which is capable of delivering incredible internet speeds of up to 8.5Gbps download and 850Mbps upload.

While the pilot was previously known to cover around 40,000 premises in Guildford and Woking, the updated map now reveals that the trial area has been expanded to include the lovely nearby locations of Brookwood, Puttenham, Clandon, Shere, and Worplesdon. The trial is scheduled to get underway from 23rd March 2026, offering a fantastic opportunity for households in these communities to experience the very future of high-speed connectivity.

This trial is part of a much larger, positive story for the UK. Openreach's current Full Fibre network is a massive £15bn investment that already connects approximately 22 million premises across the country. With plans to reach 25 million by December 2026 and potentially up to 30 million by the end of 2030, the nation is moving towards a brighter, faster digital future. Although most current connections use GPON technology, this new XGS-PON trial will allow EE to test both 8Gbps and 2.3Gbps services, paving the way for even faster options for everyone.

For those lucky enough to be selected, the process is straightforward. EE customers opting to join will simply need to welcome an engineer for a visit to install a latest-generation 10Gbps capable Optical Network Terminal inside the home. Depending on the specific speeds chosen for the trial, a new router may also be supplied to ensure the best possible experience.

If you are curious about whether your home is included in this thrilling expansion or need guidance on broadband options, our friendly team is here to help. We can point you in the right direction to find the best deals and support for your needs.
