Wonderful news for residents and businesses in Cornwall! Alternative rural broadband provider Wildanet has announced a major expansion of their high-speed network. They are now deploying their new 2Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP) network to 2,318 premises across Bude, Stratton, and surrounding villages. This exciting rollout includes communities such as Hersham, Grimscott, and Marhamchurch, bringing world-class connectivity to these lovely rural areas.
This deployment is a key part of Wildanet's remaining Project Gigabit contract for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Originally awarded in April 2024, this initiative aims to connect thousands of premises in hard-to-reach locations. To date, the team has already successfully covered 3,460 premises under this build, demonstrating their commitment to getting everyone online. The project is supported by a substantial £100m investment from Gresham House and £35m from the National Wealth Fund, ensuring robust infrastructure for the future.
The expansion builds on Wildanet's wider success, having already enabled more than 50,000 connections across the South West region through a mix of private investment and public funding. While much of Bude town centre is already covered by existing full fibre, this new contract specifically targets the more rural outskirts, ensuring no one is left behind. The work is expected to be completed by late summer 2026, with connections going live on a phased basis as the network is finished.
